A sculpture often starts with Kari-Lena Flåten sketching an idea directly in the sculpture material. Other times she uses both sketches and models. The sculpture material varies from ordinary clay, to different plasticine materials. Different materials give different structures in the sculpture.

About the event

A sculpture often starts with Kari-Lena Flåten sketching an idea directly in the sculpture material. Other times she uses both sketches and models. The sculpture material varies from ordinary clay, to different plasticine materials. Different materials give different structures in the sculpture. In parallel, she always works with her theme both in her sculptures, paintings and various graphic techniques. Her expression captures both young and old with a human and recognizable message. There is a lot of emotion in her work. She gets her main inspiration from meetings with people and especially children. Emotions, states and personalities inspire her, which she tries to capture and recreate in hers art. “I admire children's strength and coping strategies, they are so strong and fragile at the same time. This is what I try to capture and recreate, like sculpting the children's voices" The bronze process is a small journey in itself. It starts with a form of the sculpture which is again filled with wax. The wax is cast in bronze. The process ends with patination of the sculpture. Kari Lena herself takes part in all stages of the work process at the foundry. Her sculptures are only produced in an edition of 8 works.
